Ensuring a Safe Summer: Empowering Counselors with Emergency Preparedness Training

Summer camp is a cherished tradition for children around the world. It's a place where lifelong memories are made, friendships are formed, and young minds are nurtured. For parents, sending their kids off to camp is a leap of faith, trusting that the camp counselors will ensure their child's safety and well-being throughout their stay. This trust is not taken lightly, and at JEPP (Jewish Emergency Preparedness Program), we understand the importance of equipping counselors with the knowledge and skills to handle emergency situations effectively. This summer, we embarked on a mission to train over 250 enthusiastic counselors from day and overnight camps, including Gan Chabad Day Camp, Golden Slippers Camp, and Camp Chavya, in emergency preparedness.

Our Mission: Safety First

At JEPP, our core mission is to empower communities with the knowledge and skills necessary to handle emergency situations effectively. We believe that safety should always come first, especially when it involves our children. The training program we conducted this summer was designed to empower counselors with essential tools and strategies to ensure the well-being and safety of everyone at camp.

A Comprehensive Training Experience

Our training program was a comprehensive and engaging experience for all the counselors who participated. Throughout the sessions, we covered a wide range of topics, including emergency response protocols for various real-life situations, effective communication strategies, and much more. Our incredible trainers worked diligently to create an informative and interactive learning environment that left the counselors feeling confident and ready to tackle any situation that may arise during their time at camp.

Preparing for the Unthinkable

While we hope for sunny days and laughter-filled activities, we also recognize the importance of preparing for the unexpected. The counselors we trained learned how to react to various events, including active shooter scenarios, bomb threats, and health emergencies. While these situations are rare, being prepared and having a plan in place can make all the difference when it comes to the safety of campers and staff.
